Longarm Quilting & Rental

Longarm Quilting Services

Current turn around time is 4 to 6 weeks.

There is no need to make an appointment to drop off a quilt. Please feel free to come in any time we are open.

Longarm Quilting Service

We offer 100% hand-guided longarm machine quilting services for all sizes of quilts from baby to king.

The back of your quilt should be at least 4 inches longer on the top and bottom, with 2 inches side to side to allow for attachment to the quilting frame.

Please don't baste your quilt or worry about pressing before you bring it to us unless there are severe creases.

Any type of fabric used is welcome. We're happy to discuss quilting options for any completed project.

Pricing

  • $0.027 per square inch for allover edge-to-edge quilting.
  • Minimum $50.
If your quilt is 45" x 60", the cost will be $72.90. A 90" x 100" quilt will be $243.
  • Custom quilting or intricate pantographs range from $0.03+ per square inch depending on the level of complexity.

What's included?

  • One or two thread colours of your choice, either Aurifil or King Tut. Both are 100% cotton.
  • The piecing of your backing if you purchased it from us.
  • Trimming your quilt.

Other services we offer:

  • Machine binding - $0.25 per linear inch. This includes prepping the binding and attaching it to front and back by machine.
  • Piecing a backing purchased elsewhere - $10.

Longarm Rental

  • Rentals are usually Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm or 2 pm to 5 pm. You are welcome to book full days, and payment is due at the time of booking. If you run out of time, you may need to unload your quilt and rebook a session to reload and finish your project. If there is time available at the end of your session, you can add additional time in hourly increments for $30/hour.
  • Depending on complexity, most projects can be completed within 3-6 hours. On average, a twin-sized quilt can be done in one session. For larger projects it is recommended you book the day.

  • If this is your first time using a longarm machine, about an hour of your first rental will be instruction on how to load and use the machine. Topics covered include bobbin winding, loading a quilt, threading the machine, thread tension, basting your quilt, using a pantograph, tying off the threads, advancing your quilt, and finishing the last row. A smaller project is easier to manage when you are beginning than a larger one.

  • If you have used longarm machines elsewhere, 15 to 30 minutes of your first rental will be a quick run-down on how to use our machine. This is a great video to watch for a refresher on how to load a quilt onto our machine.
  • We are more than happy to help with issues when they arise, but please keep in mind that renting our machine is expected to be self-directed.

  • We will supply Aurifil 50 wt cotton or King Tut 40 wt cotton thread for use. We have many colour choices available. If you would like to use something else, please bring it with you.

  • Please feel free to browse our pantographs, you are welcome to use any you like, so long as they are not currently used by our quilter for another customer.
  • You are welcome to use our kitchen, which has a fridge, microwave, kettle, and water cooler while you are quilting with us, so please bring any food, drinks, and a water bottle.

  • We also have a dedicated parking lot behind the store for our customers.
---

Jumpstart Service | $30

If you would like us to load your quilt, thread and pantograph before your session, please drop off your prepared top, backing and batting, and choose your thread and pantograph no later than one business day before your appointment.

---

PREPARING YOUR QUILT:

Prepare the backing and batting – They should be 4” larger on all sides to make your quilting experience easy.

Press the seams – Ensure your quilt is well pressed, with seams as flat as possible and creases removed. If you have a seam on the backing, consider pressing it open. You can fold your top, back, and batting individually and place them over hangers.

Stay-Stitch the edge – If your quilt has seams around the edge, you can baste around the quilt about 1/8” from the edge to keep the seams from pulling apart during quilting.

Trim loose threads – cut stray threads from the quilt top and backing. You can also trim the ones you see on top while advancing the quilt.

Dot Rewards

Earning points is easy!

$1 = 10 dots, and some social media activities, birthdays and referring friends are also rewarded with dots.

For those with stamp cards, 1 stamp = 200 dots. You are welcome to hold onto your completed stamp cards as long as you wish to redeem for a free meter, or get them converted to dots on your next visit.

You do not need an account to earn Dots, however you will need an account to redeem Dots, refer friends, and share on socials.

Minimum Dots you can redeem is 500 for $5 off your total order in-store or online.

Unfortunately, nothing can last forever. Any unredeemed Dots will automatically expire 24 months after they are earned.

How do I use my dots? Sign into your account and any awards available to you will be listed. Choose which reward you would like to use on your order.

You earn Dots on every dollar you purchase, so if you’re redeeming and have ordered more items, you will earn 10 Dots for every dollar you spend above the redeemed amount. You can only redeem one level of Dots per order.

Unless otherwise stated, the following are not considered qualifying purchases and will not accrue Dots:

  1. When redeeming Dots for a purchase;
  2. Taxes and fees required by law, bag fees, shipping fees, and other fees;
  3. Trapunto gift card purchases, but when a gift card is used to make a qualifying purchase you will accrue Dots.
Free Shipping over $250 will apply after all discounts and taxes, including the redeeming of Dots.

We reserve the right to change the level of earning required for each Dot and the redemption schedule for this program.

No rights in Dots. Dots are not property and you have no vested right or interest in Dots. Dots have no cash value. Dots are not assignable or transferrable between accounts or otherwise, and Dots cannot be combined across accounts, regardless of who registered the account.

Trapunto's Dot rewards can change from time to time. Trapunto reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, change, modify or discontinue Dot rewards, in whole or in part, including any terms, rules, features, benefits, rewards, conditions of participation, Dots accruing or accumulation ratio, the Dots redemption policy, the Dots expiration policy, or any other aspect of the Program at any time, with or without advance notice, even though changes may affect Dots and rewards already in your account.

Store Hours

We are open from 10-5 Monday to Saturday. Closed on Sundays and Holidays.

Pre-Orders

Pre-order items are not currently in stock.

Purchasing a pre-order item means you are reserving the fabric (or other item) by paying up-front before Trapunto receives the fabric from the supplier.

Pre-order listings have an expected arrival date, but it can change which is out of our control. We will update any changes as information becomes available.

When a pre-order arrives, orders will be cut and shipped immediately. Placing a pre-order promises you will get your fabric before anyone else.

---

If you place a pre-order with in-stock items, we will hold your order until the pre-order items arrive.

If you would like the in-stock items to be shipped right away, instead of waiting for pre-orders to arrive, please place a separate order.

If you cannot attend, please give us a minimum of one week's notice. This will give us time to try and fill your place or, feel free to send a friend. Just let us know.

Cancellations made less than one week before the class start date will forfeit their registration fee unless we are able to fill your spot. We want to ensure that our teachers are compensated for their time and work, and allow students on the waitlist the opportunity to attend. No-shows forfeit any claim to refund.

About Us

Trapunto – "to quilt" in Italian (we're not Italian) is a family business located in Edmonton, Alberta which started in 2016 as a way to share our love of quality quilting fabric, hand embroidery, and notions with others.

We are passionate about the brands we carry, looking to bring fresh and unique fabric to Alberta's capital. Our brick and mortar opened in March 2019, and we are so thrilled to be a part of Edmonton's sewing community.

Dorothy is the owner of Trapunto. Her passion for quilting started during summer meetings of the Conjuring Creek Women’s Institute. She already loved fabrics and sewing; therefore, creating quilts became a passion. While working full-time managing super duper, complicated engineering projects cut into time for making quilts; it did allow time to become a knowledgeable quilter. Dorothy currently serves on the Edmonton and District Quilt Guild as Treasurer.

Jamie is our wearer of many hats. Jamie's the one behind this very website and our social media content among other things. While not quite a quilter, she enjoys hand embroidery, video games, and is a member of the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild and joined the executive to oversee Exhibits & the Newsletter.

Karen is our resident longarm quilter. Having been a quilter for ages, she bought her own longarm machine in 2002 going in hard after using her domestic to quilt. Entirely self-taught she's been longarming for a solid decade. We're so happy that the time was right for her to get back into longarming and join our team.

Sandra is our warm and kind friend that brings enthusiasm and joy to what some might consider menial tasks. She is a true fabric enthusiast, keeps our shelves neat, our fat quarters from being naked, and stitches up samples. She is also the Edmonton District Quilt Guild's Librarian.

FAQ

WE SELL YARDAGE BY THE CENTIMETRE.

Our minimum is 25cm (10 inches x WOF). If you would like a fat quarter, please let us know in your order notes.

Any orders with less than that amount will be refunded and cancelled.

Unless otherwise stated in the product title or description all of our fabric is 100% cotton.

Tips on navigating our website.

  • You can search for any theme, colour, brand or item you are looking for using the magnifying glass or the three lines in the top left will open a menu.
  • Click on any image to be taken to another page to see what other colours or prints are available.
  • You may sign up to receive notifications when a product is stocked by entering your email on the product page of a "coming soon" item.

Why no lettermail option for shipping?

We charge what it costs us to ship packages using weight and dimensions outlined by Canada Post. The products we sell simply do not fit into the letter mail category, nor does it cost $4 to ship, even within the province of Alberta. If we offered this option, we would be losing money and potentially not making any profit on a sale.

Unless you’re purchasing from a huge corporation that has it's own trucks, trailers, and aircraft to be able to undercut every other business and mail carrier, or another large retailer that is able to readily absorb that cost due to massive sales volumes, that small local business is eating the actual cost of shipping to give you that cheaper option. Food for thought when you want to "support local".

---

When you’ve filled your cart with goodies, start the checkout process by selecting local pickup or shipping and entering your information.

Once your payment is successful you will get an email confirming your order. Processing time varies depending on how many orders we have to pack. When we have finished packing your order you will get another notification saying it is ready to be picked up!

Colour Disclaimer

Actual colours of our fabric may vary. This is due to the fact that every computer monitor has a different capability to display colours and that everyone sees these colours differently. We source images from the manufacturer and when those aren't available, try to edit our photos to show the samples as life-like as possible, but please understand the actual colour may vary slightly from your monitor. We cannot guarantee that the colour you see accurately portrays the true colour of the product.

Shipping Policy

As a small business, please understand we are not able to compete with large retailers.

Our goal is to offer you the best shipping options, no matter where you live. We deliver to customers across the world and try to ensure that we provide the very highest levels of responsiveness to you at all times.

All flat rate boxes include tracking and on-time delivery guarantee across Canada, varying by destination.

A small Flat Rate box can hold roughly 8 meters of regular cotton fabric or 4 meters of flannel and costs $18.49. If you order more than those amounts, there are Medium and Large boxes for $23.49 or $29.99 respectively.

Why no Lettermail option for shipping?

We charge what it costs us to ship packages using the weight and dimensions outlined by Canada Post. The products we sell simply do not fit into the letter mail category, nor does it cost $4 to ship, even within the province of Alberta.

If we offered this option, we would be losing money and potentially not making any profit on a sale. If there is a difference in what Shopify has estimated vs the actual cost to ship, we will refund the difference.

Free shipping over C$200 before tax applies to Canadian addresses only.
